Brief Conversation

INTJ & ENTP

By FPrince on 03-14-2008

I deliver temperament workshops to organizations and find that stories, anecdotes and humour are the best way to help people understand and remember the concepts.

I recently thought of this "brief conversation" to help illustrate the difference between Masterminds and Inventors:

Mastermind (INTJ): You can't get anywhere without a plan.
Inventor (ENTP): And yet...here we are

I welcome you're comments and  "brief conversation" suggestions.

{First, excuse this for being in one giant clump of a paragraph, even though I wrote 6 paragraphs! At least I believe this is the section where it is clumped together. I really wish their tech person would change it to accept paragraph form no matter where it happens on the site.} Thanx ~ I appreciate that explanation, particularly regarding the Mastermind. I'm interested in that type, & so far I have only found one other posting here besides you. I am just exploring the possibility of the INTJ & the ENFP (me) being complementary partners. I am truly happy where I am right now, which is totally on my own. On the other hand, I am not closed to the idea of a relationship. It's just that I have been in relationships with so many poor choices, that I figure if I ever become involved again, it will be founded on more research & less of my sentimental heart! Guess I’m finally planning, huh? Heh heh ~ Actually, I see it more as rehearsing & getting to know a role, because in my many years onstage, great improvisation is downright HOLY! In truth though, it is definitely not planned. It is just about becoming familiar & at ONE with the character. Then you can make it your own! My entire teaching career I wrote lesson plans, only because it was required, but I can truly say I cannot EVER remember following them! Hahaha ~ It was simply too confining & disallowed “teaching to the moment.” It really made me chuckle to be reminded that Masterminds are all about planning, because of the obvious contrast with the ENFP who loves to wing it & nearly always does!

I read on another site the difference between the four Rational roles in the context of chess. The Mastermind plays by the rules, calculating strategies, then implementing them in a decisive manner. - The Architect comes up with all sorts of strategies that violate how the pieces move, then asks to start all over! - The Inventor will alter the rules for movement, claiming that the basic rules are insufficient! - The Fieldmarshall plays by the standard rules, but insists on making his opponents moves for them! I think the two short definitions presented are consistent with what I'm relaying.

    I like the chess thing

As an INTJ female I can tell you realtionahips are not an easy thing for me! I have always had realtionships with opposite types and they have not worked out. I'm taking some time to myself right now, but wonder what it would be like to be in a realtionship with another INTJ...we are such a rare type to begin with, but would it be too much of the "same" that would highlight our weaknesses, or would it be "heaven" giving each other personal space, quiet time, the comfort of being with someone who "understands".....????

I think I'm completely enamoured by the Rational mind. Perhaps due to my own lack of logic. I grew up with an ENTJ father (whom I always put up in the highest pedestal) and and INTP brother, whom I'm always fighting with! Anyway! I like the chess explanation, particularly because I am so completely inefficient at playing chess! -------------------------------------------- Hunguriankate: I feel your pain! there is quite the passionate suffering for people like rationals and idealists who are incredibly over shadowed by 80% of the population (if Im wrong with this number, I'm sure one of you rationals will correct me). I think it's peculiar how a "brief conversation" can turn into endless ones. :-)

so i took this test and it told me im an architect. and i have to say it read me like a book. i always thought i was the wierd one in class during high school because i would be too busy with my own thoughts to give a damn about somethin like geometry etc. because there was always something else that ignited my curiosity and i wouldnt stop thinking about it till a solution was in hand or when the idea was about to push me off the edge of insanity, or how so many of my teachers resented the fact that i debated better than they did when all i would be trying to do is point out inconsistancies or contradictory statements, i was continually regarded as a smart @$# for outsmarting the teacher the "smart" one in class. while in classes that i would have nothing to say my grades would suffer because i would be in my own little world and in those classes i was looked at as stupid because i was too shy to share what i thought were insane theories but when i actually told people these things they regarded me as intelligent, but i never knew what to believe because on paper i would recieve d's and c's. anyways the point i was trying to make is that i always thought i was wierd...well thats how high school made me feel. but this site has shown me that its just that my personality type is just extremely rare. now i guess i know how einstein must have felt
