I wonder how much temperament has to do with ideal vacations. A number of my Idealist friends much prefer active vacations - exploring new cultures, meeting local people, visiting museums, etc. My Guardian friends usually have activities researched, planned, and scheduled in advance, and Artisan friends are counting on adventure (jungle canopy rides, for example).
What is your ideal vacation? Pick only one. I enjoy culture discovery and adventure / thrills as well as beach lazing, but if only choosing one, its the beach for me!

I vote for the beach. With a suitcase full of books. |

I want to be in a condo on the beach. I only like nature in limited quantities and am not fond of heat, cold, wind, rain, sand, bugs, and so on. I like to enjoy the outdoors while sitting in a comfortable chair on a patio on the second floor with a view. .................................... I'll watch lhall parasail. On our last vacation, I spent a fair amount of time watching a parasailer. ............................... My idea of a great vacation is doing only what I want to do which is reading and writing, some swimming and shopping. Sightseeing is nice too, but I have limited energy (fibromyalgia etc) and need lots of sleep. Right now, with 3 1/2 kids (my husband), vacations end up being about everyone else. |

Artisan-Crafters are basically always on vacation. |

See new sights, meet strange new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before --- but with a cozy and comfortable den to retreat to, with lots and lots of books. Preferably with a coffee shop with comfortable chairs and a nice selection of nibblements. (OK - dream on.) |

One of my favourite vacations ever was a four-day road trip that took me around the north shore of Lake Superior. The peculiar thing was that it was in the four days preceding Christmas. While there was the sense of adventure associated with going to places that I had never been before, the real rationale was that I didn't tell anyone of my trip ahead of time. Indeed, I rang my mother a couple of times from Canada and she was none the wiser. I don't know if this fits the Rational temperament, but just getting away from it all and being left to one's own thoughts seems to be ideal for me. |

I had posted before that my idea of vacation is living without a timepiece. Go where I want, do what I want, when I come across it. I would ride in the boat that pulls the parasail and then find a cozy spot to read & watch children play at the same time. |

p.s. I hope you and your family's dream vacation comes true on this trip, Kip! |

"Living without a timepiece"? Sounds like my career goal rather than my idea of a vacation. LOL. |

Hey bsaunders, let's start an internet business together ... we could name it "Your Mom's got a Secret" or "KMA, Inc." or "Thank Goodness Moriah Found Her Soulmate". What do you think? |

I'll go with you to PV, but I get to do the canopy ride and at least one parasail :)
