I’m writing this because of Jack’s comment in Dr. Lovegood’s column about talking with teens. One problem adults have is that they talk to teens instead of with them. I teach high school. I do a lot of listening to teens. I have one child who is almost 16, and one who is 12 (plus another). My own children are no problem in this area. I think they are trying to make up for being unbelievably awful as babies and preschoolers.

Leaders would campaign for individualized instruction for children to bring out their potential. There would be a huge emphasis on working cooperatively. Competition would be discouraged. Sports would become exhibitions instead of competitions. Some students…
Most of my experience with parties has been with the ones for children’s birthdays. My Guardian mother gave nice birthday parties for me with cute shaped invitations and fun themes. I remember one year the theme was Winnie the Pooh. My mom made a Winnie the Pooh shaped cake. She let me write my name in icing on the cake. I was pleased to do that but very disappointed with how my name actually came out. Strangely enough, it looked like it had been written by a child. Each child received …
