wish you were here

sometimes songs convey all that you want them to

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Hello don't you know me? I'm the dirt beneath your feet. The most important fool you forgot to see. I've seen how you've given, now I want you to receive. I know that you would do the same for me. I know I'm headed for the bottom but I'm riding you all the way. ... My place was beneath you but now I am above. And now I send you a message of love. A simple reminder of what you won't see. A future so holy without me.
